Katan began as a vision by local educators, Sarah Adams and Shannon Cruzen.
Shannon Cruzen completed her master’s thesis on the schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy. She currently teaches Kindergarten at a Reggio inspired School and is the mother of two young children.
Sarah Adams completed the three year Waldorf Teacher Training and recently traveled to study at the schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy. She is currently a teacher at a local Reggio Inspired school.
After years of teaching in the classroom and presenting at local early childhood conferences we saw a need for a toy store that could provide more than just toys. A place to educate, welcome, and celebrate the growing child.
We believe that often toys serve the sole purpose of entertaining the child, leaving the imagination untouched. Children have a natural desire to explore, experience and make connections for themselves. As an educator owned business, we seek out sustainably produced toys and art materials that provide open ended experiences to spark the imagination, foster flexible thinking and problem solving skills, and actively involve children in play.
